Celebrate Fall in West Muskoka
In the twenty-ninth
issue of the Bed and Breakfast Traveller, we take you to Muskoka, located
in central Ontario just ninety minutes north of Toronto.

When she puts on her
fall colours, Muskoka begins her second busiest season of the year. For
many, this is the best season of them all. With the granite and water
as a backdrop, the foliage adds yet another dimension for scenery seekers.

On September 28
and 29 the Autumn Studio Tour of Muskoka takes place throughout
the district. This is an annual event featuring visits and tours of artisan

On October 5 & 6 a triple-header of activities includes an
Antique Show & Sale at the Bala Sports Arena, Cottage Country
Art Show & Sale at the Bala Legion,and Gift & Craft Fair
at the Torrance Community Centre.
 West
Muskoka takes centre stage with the 18th Bala Cranberry Festival
on October 18, 19, 20. Three fun filled days celebrate Muskoka's
unique agricultural heritage. This is a festival designed with the whole

Come and celebrate
the harvest at Johnston’s Cranberry Marsh or Iroquois Cranberry Growers.
Shuttle buses will take you out to the marshes where you can take a tractor
or horse drawn wagon ride. Sample Cranberry, White Cranberry, and Blueberry
Cranberry wines at Muskoka Lakes Winery at the Johnston Marsh.

Bala has strong ties
to Lucy Maud Montgomery and on the 19th, you can enjoy the Cran-Anne
Look-Alike Contest. What would Anne (of Green Gables fame) look like
if she came to the Cranberry Festival today? Find out at this delightful
contest.

On Saturday, December
7 take a Trek to Bethlehem. Bala's streets are transformed
into a biblical village where visitors journey back in time to experience
the first Christmas. 5:30 p.m. Admission is free but donations are gratefully
accepted.If
you can’t make it this fall, put West Muskoka on your must-do list
for next year. Both Bala and Port Carling were awarded the coveted "Four
Blooms" in the province-wide Communities in Bloom competition and
will be in national competition next year.
